Distinguished author Bishop Richard Harries and eminent poet Roger McGough come together on Thursday 8 November at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Barnes to debate the themes of Richard’s new book Haunted by Christ – Modern Writers and the Struggle for Faith.
W H Auden, T S Eliot, William Golding, Elizabeth Jennings, C S Lewis, Flannery O’Connor, Stevie Smith. . . these are among some of the great poets and novelists whose struggles with faith finds expression in their works, and whose works have helped countless readers to appreciate the different forms that faith can take in different times and places. In his new book, Richard Harries considers the work of twenty of these writers, painting vivid pictures of their lives and times, and providing us with numerous critically sympathetic insights into the spiritual dimension of their writings.
Richard Harries and Roger McGough are both long-term residents of Barnes and this promises to be a fascinating and thought-provoking evening. Books from both authors will be on sale for signing at the event and tickets at £10 are available from Barnes Bookshop or ticketsource.co.uk/stmarybarnes
