In the aftermath of the bombing in Manchester, Bishop Christopher has asked us to commend to you all the following prayer, written by the Dean of Southwark, for your use. The original was published on the Diocesan website this morning and can be found here.
He says: ‘We stand together to oppose those who wish harm to others so that we can bring light to our troubled world. I commend this prayer to you for all those affected by the bombing in Manchester, especially victims and their families.’
‘In the midst of life we are in death.’
Lord, in a place of pleasure, terror struck,
in a place of life, death came.
Hold us in our shock and grief,
comfort the distressed,
heal the injured,
calm the anxious,
reunite the separated,
console the bereaved,
and give rest and everlasting peace
to those who have died,
for your love never fails
and through the darkness
your light always shines.
Amen.
